DPO accused of rape granted bail...
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Onikan Station, SP Adekunle
Awe, accused of having sex with a woman detained at the station (read here) has been granted bail, Vanguard reports. He was reportedly granted bail yesterday after spending three days in detention.
According to reports, this is not the first time DPO Awe would be accused of demanding sex from a woman in police custody. Hopefully it will be his last.
Meanwhile the IG of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered a discreet investigation into the allegation and has instructed that the police make their findings known to the Public.
Seven police officers, including the DPO, who were present on the night of the incident, had been arrested but five of them were let off the hook as they were able to prove they were not aware of the DPO's act and so did not act as accomplices.
