Mom denies watching son beaten to death for stealing a piece of birthday cake
The mother of a 9-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten to death over a piece of missing birthday cake has pleaded not guilty to murder and child abuse charges.
Online court records show that 26-year-old Oriana Garcia filed the pleas on Thursday in Washington County Circuit Court. She requested a jury trial.

Police say she allowed her son to be handcuffed and beaten to punish him for stealing.
Her boyfriend, 30-year-old Robert Leroy 'Roy' Wilson, also disciplined Jack by slapping him in the head, boxing with him with padded gloves and hitting him in the leg with a bamboo sword, Garcia's brother Jacob Andrew Barajas told police.
Barajas, 23, said all three adults also made Jack eat food he had stolen 'until he was sick of it', and 'used exercise to help Jack focus better', the court records say.

Garcia is also accused of denying Jack medical treatment for hours by sending away an ambulance after he was beaten unconscious on June 30.

They all lived in the apartment where Jack was assaulted on June 30. The boy died on July 5.
